So, you're watching TV and minding your own business when all of a sudden a commerical comes on referencing the King Arthur legend. Is it an ad for flour? No, it's a recruitment ad for the US Marines. Summer 2005, the youth group will be looking at the Hero Myth, King Arthur, and the satiracle look at the lengend by none other than the comedy troupe, Monty Python.

Publicly Funded Elections

With Reverend Young's encouragement, I'm writing to ask you to support this year's "Clean Election" bills at the Hawaii State Legislature. These bills are almost identical to those passed last year by both the State House and Senate, but which were never scheduled for hearing by the conference committee at the end of the session. This legislation would create a voluntary, but potentially much more meaningful, public financing option for any candidate running for governor, lieutenant governor, or a state legislative seat. This legislation has potential to restore true competition in our elections by significantly reducing the undemocratic influence of well-funded special interest groups.

Teaching Judeo-Christian Symbolism with Movies

During Fall 2004, our junior youth group watched movies to learn about the Judea-Christian tradition. For some, watching movies may seem a little light on content for youth group meetings. Afterall, movies are fun, so what can the youth learn from them?
